Hi friends!
I know it’s been a while since I’ve checked in – I hope everyone had an amazing holiday season. I wanted to start you off with one of the most relevant social media topics that a lot of marketers are talking about… TikTok!
Fact: TikTok was the fastest growing social media platform in 2019.
Fact: TikTok has 500 million monthly active users around the world
Fact: Just under 40% of users are aged 10-19 and 26% are 20-29.
Alright business owners, TikTok isn’t going anywhere but you can use it to your advantage! Plenty of brands and companies are using TikTok to elevate their business.
I compiled a list of interesting ways businesses are using TikTok in hopes that it may inspire some ideas for your business!
Guess was one of the first brands to launch a TikTok challenge #InMyDenim. They encouraged users to film themselves wearing Guess jeans and use the hashtag. Challenges are one of the most popular types of content on TikTok and you can easily do one too! This is a great example of User Generated Content.
Advertising is still new to TikTok, but there is currently a beta version that launched in 2019 and Grubhub, Nike, Fenty Beauty, and Apple Music have all placed ads on Tikok with it. However, it doesn’t hurt to get yourself educated on it so that when we they app does launch it, you already have the competitive edge of knowing how it will look!
Working with TikTok influencers can give you a chance to reach a whole new audience but you’ll have to do some research on who matches your target audience. If you’re not sure where to start, take a look here. TikTok’s top influencers even have their own house. Think Jake Paul’s Team 10, but for TikTokers.
There are some famous TikTokers who relate viral content to their everyday work life and have millions of followers.
These two are great examples and you should definitely check out their content if you’re thinking of diving into the world of TikTok for your business.
Anthony Barbuto (@TheLawyer) is a lawyer who creates TikToks and has about 2 million followers. Anthony uses loosely-related song lyrics to showcase a legal situation. You can click here for an example.
Benjamin Winters (@TheBentist) is an orthodontist who creates TikToks with over 2 million followers.
This really just boils down to having a brand online. Even if you’re not showcasing your business, you’re showcasing yourself and if you’re the face of the business, isn’t it one and the same?
So what if you don’t have the time to create content for TikTok? Let’s bring it back to one of my favourite tips… Recycled content!!! Take clips from previous videos you’ve done, edit them on InShot on your phone and upload! You can even add more effects on there.
Create an account and watch a few. See what’s happening on there and if you have the time to hop on a trend and film it, do it! Here’s a couple that are most loved on TikTok right now to get you started!
Why Don’t You Say So dance challenge
Another viral one is when you use an embarrassing picture from your past, such as an outfit you wore to a concert or a Halloween costume.
Hope this little snapshot gave you some more perspective on the app!
I’m going to be giving TikTok a shot this year! If you’d like to follow me, you can click here!
If you have a TikTok account, email it to me! I’d love to see what you’ve been posting.
As I always say: work hard, be kind and spread happy vibes!
